The Management program’s Board of Advisors has been in existence for more than 10 years. It plays a vital role in helping to provide professional insight as pertains to the Department’s students. Board members come from both profit and non-profit entities and represent varying disciplines such as healthcare, information technology, and consulting. The varied interests and backgrounds of Board members helps to further the different specializations in the undergraduate degree program in the Department which include entrepreneurship, management of health-care enterprises, global e-business, personnel management, and supply chain management.

Specific objectives of the Board of Advisors include:

  • Provide an effective link between management education and management practice;
  • Promote good public relations and a positive image on behalf of the Department;
  • Identify and suggest opportunities for enhanced student and faculty development, such as involving internships, externships, and applied research sites;
  • Assist in fund raising for the Department
Richard Brodkorb

Mr. Richard Brodkorb is President and Principal Consultant with REB Management Company, Yorba Linda, California, a management consulting firm specializing in performance management, business process improvement, earned value and program/project management. Prior to his current position, Richard was Vice President and Practice Lead for SM&A, which was preceded by founding and serving as CEO of Decision Planning Corporation over 20 years; both are professional management consulting firms. Richard is a Certified Management Consultant (CMC). Richard holds BS and MS Business degrees from SIU Carbondale, focusing in Accounting, Industrial Management and Operations Research.

He has advised and led dozens of clients in gaining national recognition for management achievements and major efficiency gains, often involving large contract awards, dozens of management quality certifications and other standards. He specializes in client engagements leading interdisciplinary process improvement teams, often employing Quality Management DMAIC and Six Sigma principles.

Richard routinely develops and implements corporate management training programs as an integral part of most consulting engagements. He also has lectured at over 20 universities and currently serves as an Adjunct Instructor in Program and Project Management at University of California, Irvine.

Richard served as an USAF Officer in the Air Force Systems Command. He was a pioneering leader while in the USAF, developing and implementing new management thinking, known today an Earned Value Management (EVM) which is now institutionalized as an ANSI Standard.

His commercial and institutional clients are often from among hi-tech and capital-intense industries, with over 25% of the Fortune '100' among his clientele. Government clients include the US Departments of Defense and Energy, NASA and the EPA. International government clients include the sovereign nations of the United Kingdom, Italy, Sweden, Jamaica, Venezuela, Australia, India, China, and Canada.

Ms. Penny Clancy is Vice President of Human Resources, Sentinel Technologies, Inc., Downers Grove, Illinois.  Her company has been recognized for more than 25 years as a leader in providing business technology services from end-to-end solutions to targeted applications.  As such, Sentinel is one of the leading IT services and solutions providers in the U.S.  Ms. Clancy graduated from Illinois State University with majors in Human Resource Management and Business Administration.  Prior to assuming her position as Vice President of Human Resources, Ms. Clancy was Director of Human Resources and, prior to that position, Director of Corporate Recruiting; these positions were also at Sentinel Technologies.  Prior to joining her current organization, Ms. Clancy held management positions at Astro-Tech Cleaning and Maintenance Professionals, Inc. and at Information Technologies International, Inc.

Caroline (Ebelhar) Ellis grew up in Southern Illinois and graduated from SIUC in 2012 with a BS in Management, specializing in Human Resources. Shortly after graduation, she moved to Colorado where she began her career in Human Resources. She has worked in manufacturing, financial and technology startup companies where she has progressively taken on higher level Human Resources responsibilities. Her favorite thing about her roles have been interactions with her employees and helping them navigate through tough employee relationship issues. Currently she works for Woodward, a manufacturing company in the Fort Collins area, where she is the site lead for their aerospace division. She completed her Senior Professional in Human Resources certification in 2019 and continues her education by maintaining membership in Society for Human Resource Management and a local Denver group called Employers Council. When she is not at work, she spends time with her husband hiking in the Rocky Mountains or traveling internationally to hike other parts of the world.

Jesse Keyser is CEO of Keyser Enterprises, Inc., a position he has held since May 2004.  Keyser Enterprises, Inc. is involved with franchise operations for Little Caesars Pizza and Sport Clips Haircuts.  Jesse’s company has also purchased franchising rights to Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning for the St. Louis Designated Market Area.  Keyser Enterprises has 16 locations in Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, and Kentucky.  In 2012 Jesse was Team Leader (owner) of the year Runner Up with Sports Clips Haircuts, and in 2013 Jesse received the award as Team Leader (owner) of the year for Sport Clips Haircuts.  Prior to serving as CEO of Keyser Enterprises, Jesse was in sales, product development, marketing, product training, and sales management with School Center, a company involved with education software.  He graduated from Southern Illinois University Carbondale majoring in Sociology and minoring in Marketing.

Jennifer Olson is President and CEO of Carbondale Chamber of Commerce. She is also currently serving as Chair of the Regional Advisory Council serving the Delta Leadership Network on behalf of the Delta Regional Authority. Jennifer is also the Managing Owner of The Lookout at the Lake vacation rental, as well as other commercial real estate. Jennifer is a southern Illinois native and enjoys traveling, entertaining, and exploring the area with her husband and daughters.

Kevin Purcell

Mr. Kevin Purcell has been an Organization Development professional for the past 30 years. He was Senior Director of Organization Development at Microsoft Corp from 1993-2004. Kevin worked with Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer in leading Executive Retreats during that time. During his years at Microsoft, Kevin conducted over 100 Executive retreats. Kevin also lead Strategic Planning retreats focused on Microsoft Product Strategy for all of Microsoft’s major product groups. Kevin coached leaders as part of Microsoft’s Executive Development Bench Program. He also designed and developed many of the leadership and management development courses that more than 8,000 Microsoft leaders attended. Since leaving Microsoft, Kevin has done similar work with Oracle Corp, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and Memorial Health Systems of Illinois.  In addition, Kevin is an adjunct faculty member of the University of Illinois MBA Program, where he has taught since 2007. Kevin lives in Cobden, Illinois.

As Vice President for Medical Affairs at the Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center in Richmond, Dr Sinha is responsible for strategy and budget development, financial management, and staffing for clinical process improvement, clinical transformation, electronic medical records, quality/ patient safety, compliance and regulatory oversight. He is also responsible for hospital-based physician contracts (anesthesia, emergency department, hospitalists, pathology, and radiology), medical staff relations, medical staff services, peer review, credentialing, and physician satisfaction and engagement.

As the Federal Field Medical Policy Director at Pfizer he provided project management for federal healthcare policy and public relations activities related to value based purchasing, comparative effectiveness, healthcare information technology and Medicare policies and regulations. He served as its representative to the National Quality Forum (NQF), the Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA), the American Health Quality Association (AHQA) the corporate board of the American College of Physicians, and on the EBM and Quality subgroups of PhRMA.

He served as a senior medical officer in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) from 2004 till 2008 and was responsible for coordinating the quality initiatives within the Medicare Advantage, Medicare Drug Benefit and Special Needs Programs. He was the acting Division Director within the Quality Measurement and Health Assessment Group and worked on the National Voluntary Hospital Reporting Initiative, the Chronic Care Improvement Pilot and the Medicare Quality Monitoring System (MQMS) database activity. He represented CMS on the Ambulatory Quality Alliance (AQA), the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA), the Department of Health and Human Services interagency taskforce, which produces the National Healthcare Quality and National Healthcare Disparities Reports, and as an alternate delegate to the American Health Information Community (AHIC).

At the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) he was the Director of the Managed Care Clinical Center of the VA Maryland Health Care System within VISN 5 (Veteran’s Integrated Service Network). He served as the Chief of Performance Measures for his health care system. He was Director of Primary Care at the Marion VA Medical Center (VISN 15) in Illinois.

As a board certified Internist, Dr. Sinha practiced Internal Medicine in a 45-member multi-specialty clinic in Illinois and served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine. He currently maintains his teaching and clinical affiliations at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, where he has a clinic.

Mike Skoglund

Mike Skoglund graduated from SIU in 2001 with a B.A. in administration of justice.  He has held upper management positions with Lowe’s, Best Buy, Pepsi MidAmerica and most recently Wirtz Beverage, a distributor of Wine, Spirits, and Craft Beer.  While at Pepsi MidAmerica, Mike was named the Dr Pepper National Foodservice Salesman of the year in 2011.  As a sales manager for Wirtz Beverage, he manages 24 people, responsible for the southern half of Illinois.  Mike’s career has helped him develop an expertise in contact development and negotiations as well as the ability to develop, lead, and motivate a team.  In addition to his work experience, Mike has served as chair of the food and beverage committee for the Southern Illinois Arthritis Foundation.  Mike and his wife Aimee live in Marion, Illinois with their 3 children.

Ms. Lily Sugathan is Senior Accountant with RubinBrown, LLP, Clayton, Missouri.  She performs duties as the in-charge accountant for reviews and compilations; prepares corporate, partnership and individual tax returns; trains clients on proper accounting procedures and accounting software usage; and is involved in company-wide diversity initiatives at RubinBrown.  Ms. Sugathan has considerable experience in the accounting field having held senior accountant, senior auditor, and state & local tax associate positions with different organizations, including Save-A-Lot Food Stores, Huber, Ring, Helm & Co., Schmersahl, Treloar & Co., Martz & Wilson, Arthur Anderson, and Allied Healthcare Products, Inc.  Ms. Sugathan received a BS in Accounting degree  with a Marketing minor and an MBA degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Rooji Sugathan

Mr. Rooji Sugathan is a Senior Director of Information Technology at Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri.  In his position, Mr. Sugathan provides strategic direction and management leadership necessary to support all aspects of information technology at Washington University.  He is currently the technology lead for a systems transformation program at Washington University that include implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning system (WorkDay) and all supporting projects associated with the effort that includes a complete overhaul of the data ecosystem at the university. 

Prior to joining Washington University, Mr. Sugathan held various IT-related positions, such as Program Director and Product manager at different organizations, including Express Scripts and Ungerboeck Systems International.  Mr. Sugathan received a MA degree from the University of Madras India and an MBA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.  He is currently a candidate for the Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.


Herby Voss

It was Saluki Gymnastics that first brought Herby Voss from Chicago’s northwest suburbs to Carbondale. But after 3 decades Voss happily calls Southern Illinois “home.” Since earning All-American honors, and his BS in Journalism from SIU, Voss has enjoyed a prolific marketing career. Currently, he is Director of Marketing & Business Development for the Heartland Regional Health Network which includes the flagship, 98-bed medical center, and multiple freestanding clinics throughout the region.

In April, 2015 the citizens of Murphysboro, IL elected Voss Alderman of Ward 5. As Alderman he, the mayor and a 10 person city council make decisions that impact the city, its employees and residents. Voss and his wife, fellow SIU graduate Melissa, have lived in the Jackson County seat since 2006.

The Vosses are active members of the Murphysboro Bocce Club and Herby is a co-director of one of the region’s premier charity fundraisers; the Hospice of Southern Illinois Annual Red Carpet Gala. Voss’ daughter Abby also graduated from Southern in 2012.
